After a major service to a 2001 manual transmission Discovey TD5 a roar started to be heard. It is most noticeable at a speed of 70 - 80 km/hr at 4th gear and at speed above 80 in 5th gear. I drove the Disco in low ratio and the noise was far grater.

Day by day the noise become louder. Eventually the Disco was lifted, the transfer was check and found to be O.K. It seems the noise comes from the gearbox main shaft bearings.

Any ideas what should be done?

Should I replace the gearbox? Or rebuild it?

Any recommended shop dealing with Disco manually gearboxes?

Any help or assistance will be deeply appreciated as I am in tight spot I can not use the Disco.

Cheers

Nathan

If it's happened after a service, I'd check the oil for the correct grade.

Thanks for the quick reply.

As to the oil – the service was carried out by an authorized Landrover dealer who has very good reputation. The noise started immediately after the service.

My suspicion is the previous owner did something with the box but he is reluctant to disclose any information.
