Thinking of buying a 52 plate TD5 - how easy / expensive is it to fit a drawbar - does it have to be EC approved??

Although my Disco already had one fitted, I bought one recently for a VW transporter van from http://www.towequipe.co.uk/
It took around 1.5 hours (including electrics) and was childsplay to fit, if you know your way around a toolbox etc.
If I were buying one for the disco though, I would seriously consider the witter one from http://www.witter-towbars.co.uk/towbars/price_list.aspx
FYI .. the electric kits they give you, normally splice into one of the rear light clusters with those scotch thingies that you squeeze together with pliers. They give you a diagram saying which colours on the towbar go with what colours on the light cluster loom.
Easy peasy

I really fancied one from Southdown which was a tankguard with an interchangeable towhitch/recovery point.

However it isn't Type Approved which means that it is illegal to use for towing :(. (if you vehicle is newer than (1998?))
So I'll stick to the ordinary towbar that I have just now until I see something similar that is Type Approved. I don't fancy towing 3.5Kg down the road and the thing detaching:eek: and THEN finding out that the insurance is refusing to pay out on all the mayhem and carnage that followed :eek::eek::eek::eek::D.
But most proprietory towbars are dead easy to fit. They just pick up on existing bolting points already on chassis, it is just the wiring that is a bit more fiddly, and even then it is not bad. Just allow yourself enough time not to rush it:D.
