We have loads of slides that we want to scan and save to disk - what is the best way of doing this and what will we need? I have a Brother printer/ scanner/ copier thing - do we need a slide attachment for it or is there anyway that you can do it without??

You can buy attachments that fit on the front of a SLR camera. I haven't used one of these so I can't vouch for them. You could always buy a slide scanner off ebay and when you have finished with it, sell it. I doubt you would get acceptable results with an orddinary scanner

I've an epson Scanner/Printer that has an attachable Slide scanning mount and it ok but the images are not quite pin sharp in my opinion. You can get dedicated slide scanning kit that produces excellent results for about £150 I gather though.

It would cost us hundreds to scan what we have - I'm going to have a mooch about and see what I can come up with. I used to be quite technical at one time but now I've got to the stage that I can't be nbothered to mess - I need something that works first time or I'm tempted to hurl it through a window!

If I can't get anything though I'll bear her in mind.

Heather has boxes of slides and negatives. They scan as well, so if the photos are long gone, she can still get pictures from the negatve strips.

We have 2, one is an Epson 3170, the other is a Primefilm. We got it from Dreamdirect.co.uk for around £70, but their online store is closd at the moment.

Look for a primefilm/jessops/pacific image slide scanner, it's one and the same.
Something like this..

my solution was a cardboard box (important that its white) or a piece of paper... another piece of transperant MATT film and it sorted it out
