On behalf of and with a work colleague, I'll be viewing a 3dr disco this week. It's a 97 ish model with 90k or thereabouts. Did the 3 door suffer as bad as the 5 for the corrosion, outboard of the rear seat belt anchor points in the wheel arch area? where the arch met with the vertical bodywork? I dont know how difficult it will be to see this area on a 3 door.

My 5 door had the corrosion in the usual area.
I think the 3 door is a completely different kettle of fish though due to the different panel layout?
I now have a 97 3-door and the only place it seems to have started corroding is where the rear 3/4 panel meets the bottom of the B post (now wire brushed, hammerited and waxoyled).
I'd imagine the area you mention is (or should be) fully enclosed on the 3-door so shouldn't be so likely to rust. As far as I can see there is no corrosion under the rear arches.

Fraid you're way off beam there about the 3 door not being as rusty as the 5 door. The problem is to do with the alpine roof windows, the body flexes slightly and over time the window seals fracture and water gets in at that point, dribbles down unseen behind the trim and collects under the carpet, and when you discover (scuse the pun) it, the floor panel is well and truly bollixed, and you wouldn't beleive the work involved to put it right. i was going to refit mine with a custom floor plate that would do away with the off the shelf item, but my mate bought it from me before i had the chance:rolleyes: judging by the amount of crap he is lugging around in the back of it now, he's probably done a better job than i would :)

Mine's escaped this so far then. Floor is still like new :D
I'd better re-seal those alpine windows!

In the end, the area was in good condition. Access was easy and even from below, the area was in rust free condition. I noticed that the driver's seat didnt travel back quite as far as those on a 5 door, but dont know if that was just this vehicle.
In all other respects, the car was neat and assuming the offer is accepted, colleague is soon to be a Landy owner.

Your friend is very fortunate to have found such a tidy vehicle, congratulate him for me and get him subscribed to this forum.
the seats don't move too far on the three door, because those are tilt forward types. incidentally check the welds on those in case they are fractured. replacement base units aint cheap!

He hasnt heard from the seller yet confirming acceptance. The car was up for £3995 but there was no evidence of timing belt change, the front and rear diff oil seals reqd replacing, a bump stop was off, damage to a headlamp bracket, battery stay required, 2 tyres to be changed so the offer was £3700 via a garage selling on his behalf. I hope he gets it, but there is an alternate one somewhere and if he gets a Disco, he will be on the forum no worries there.

That's what we call a minter, from these parts, no tax, MOT, insurance, in fact, no **** all of any kind, but it'll still drive better than a japanese baked bean tin:D:D I hope your mate gets it, fingers crossed.
