Have a problem with my disco 1, grating and whining noise from the kind of front of the vechicle worse at certain speeds

Now have replaced the prop, the uj's ok, the front diff has been replaced but now notice a oil leak from the front flange on the transfer box, now its got a bit of play in so might need replaceing

Does the transfer box need to come out or can i just take off the front part (like the back) the part number is STC1130 sure thats the bearing at fault.

If i leave it what happens if it collapses, as due to other problems have about 2 months MOT left and hope to sort things out after the MOT expired as the other work is time consuming but not costly.

If the bearings are that worn then so will the individual gears and gear-shafts. Better bite the bullet and get a recon transfer box. Otherwise you run the risk of replacing individual parts one after another. Not an easy task when the 'box has to be removed and stripped each time.
