View Full Version : Jerky running - battry drain

Hi all,

My Discovery 2 is suffering from intermittent jerky running when held at constant revs. The battery recently has been running low at the same time. I have changed the injector harness as the original suffered from leaking fuel into the ECU and shorting electrics.

A mechanic said the battery was running down from a leak in the suspension airbags; does the compressor operate while the ignition is off?

Any ideas

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Comp only runs with all doors shut and engine running.

Thanks very much for that info. It is obviously something else draining the batt. Will get an Amp meter onit over the weekend.

Still unsure about the jerky engine though???

Thanks again!!

Had to have an injector replaced on mine recently. "Jerky running" was a good description. It was intermittent for a couple of days, then permanent.

Thanks guys,

Will get a fuel filter first before I start poking around.

Will let you all know

not up too much on that system but have come across motors that run poor when the batt is very low. would see iff you can trace the drain first, alan.....

Have isolated a power drain when Disco is stationary and ignition is off. After the interior lights are activated and have diminished, there is a 300mA drain on the ABS. If I momentarily remove the ABS fuse then the 300mA drain goes until I open and close a car door. Strange how it linked to the opening of a door

Any clues??

Thanks again

I thought I'd read that the discos with air suspension do run teh compressors with the ignition off, something to do with auto level and it checks every x minutes and adjusts accordingly. So if you have a leak it keeps trying to self level and runs the battery down.

Not sure if it's correct - I'll try and dig out where I read it.

According to LR, the suspension remains active for only a few minutes after switch off. From my experience this has only ever been to release air and not pump it back up.

I know LR have their own quirky (some might say faulty) design features, but building a car which runs it's battery flat while not in use would be very quirky indeed.:)

Have checked out the link; does sounds interesting, but if the ECU checks the level and corrects it every 6 hours then I cannot see it running the battery down. I think my first check is the condition of the air bags, if these are leaking then maybe its true.

Thanks again for your posts!!!!
