Hi guys,

I'm new around here. I own a 1989 disco 200 and would like to know what to use and how to go about to seal alpine windows and windscreen rubber so maybe i wont have much trouble with water in winter.

Do i lift a bit the rubber with some screwdriver and put sealer? And what kind of sealer?

thanks mates

Welcome Adrian,
On the alpines you can remove the filler strip located in the centre of the rubber if you look carefully you'll see the join, you can lift it from the join using a screwdriver, it can be a pig to get back in though. By removing it you will get far better access to the recess to squirt in the sealer. Sikaflex Marine is exceptionally good, however quite expensive, other guys on here will recommend the gutter sealers that you can buy from DIY stores and builders merchants. Whether you take out the strip, or not, just get the end of the nozzle in there and squirt away. Best done when dry though, as if the sealer doesn't "stick" before it cures, capillary action will allow water ingress during heavy rain.
PS a profile with location, etc is always appreciated on here, don't be shy, be proud.

Haven't sealed yet and this morning it rained :(

Water came in from the top right part of windscreen, getting roof upholstery wet. Sunroofs did not leak and alpine windows cant be sure since it didnt rain that much. At least still better than my series 3 which i left out without roof....just a custom plastic canvas thingy to cover me from the sun.

Hopefully it will give it time to dry and maybe i tackle job this week.
