Hi
I've just sold my Defender and bought a tidy N plate 300 TDI Disco which so far is proving to be great, i can find no faults with it at all except for the stereo system which is shockingly bad, i have changed the head unit and now need to change the speakers. My question is this...... is it possible to replace the speakers in the back corner pillars for bigger ones, say 6x9's? .... has anyone had any experience on this front, any info appreciated.
:)

I think you will find the metalwork behind those speakers will restrict what you can fit in there. I replaced all 4 with Pioneer dual cone units of the same size as original (4.5 inch I think) and fitted an Alpine small enclosure powered sub (about £90 from CEL direct). Sounds fairly good but could do with some mid range so am thinking of fitting a small amp and some 6 inch units in the centre console sides (seen it done before).

You can get rear door pannel that has sub and small amp i think the wiring is already there i had this in both of my 300 tdi done the job.

hi, 6x9s wont fit the back side panels without a little pursuading ive fitted 6x9s in the back sides of my 300tdi but i did have to hammer the double skin behind the original speakers about an inche, which is rather drastic i know but they sound awesome!!. but being alloy it does work easily, but this is not for the faint hearted!!. Ive now got 4 6x9s, 2 10" speakers 2 6" speakers a 12" sub and 600watt amp. Its like a mobile Disco!! (pun intented!) :)

.....do you have any ear drums left!!!:)
Having owned nothing but Defenders for the last 7 years or so it's quite novel to have a Land rover now that i can hear the sound system in, and the phone ringing!!!
Thanks for your comments, i think a hammer is called for!:D
