View Full Version : TD5 Manual Gearbox

The disco, a 2001 manual transmission TD5 had a problem with the gearbox which was diagnosed by an authorized Landrover dealer (and good one he is) as bearing failure.

The gear was overhauled by the dealer.

Now when I drive the disco for say less than half an hour I can not touch the gearbox nor the transfer as they are too hot. I do not know how it was before as I only have the Disco for less than a month.

Is this temperature normal? If not what might be the cause?

Any idea or help will be more than welcomed.

Thanks,

Nathan

All transmissions get bloody hot especially after a long run, never touched my d2 one after a run, but service trucks for a living and they are toasty if they have just come back after a run, so would not worry, so long as box changes nice and makes no horrible noises.

Good evening.

The Disco was checked today at the dealer. The gearbox temp. measured was 80ºC which according the technical manager is all right. So it seems the problem is over or “much a do about nothing” Thanks for the assistance ;)
