I have a Freelander TD4 and live in Norway. We are off skiing in a couple of weeks and my friend has advised purchasing snow chains for our drive up north. In trying to find which ones to buy, I notice in the hadnbook it says snowchains should not be used for my tyres 225/55 R17. Anyone know why ? Do I need snowchains ? Is my "Hippo" that good that I can sleep easy knowing I will never get stuck ? or should I pack loads of sleeping bags ...!

Welcome to our forums :)
I have a friend in Norway and understand that studs is mandatory after a certain date at the start of the winter season.:dunno1:
Is that not the case ?

Not any more, in fact (as I understand it) they are trying to phase them out by bringing in a new studded tyre tax. The preferred option is 'mud and snow' tyres which are already on the vehicle and by law need to be fitted between November and March.
Beginning to wonder whether I need chains at all ?

Ah its changed then. Certainly i have chains for my Disco, but the snow was'nt any problem for my M&S Tyres last winter.....I've now got AT's fitted but i'll still carry the chains ...just in case its icy :icecube:
