Evenin all

My fan belt snapped 2 minutes before pulling up at work tonight.

Is there anyone around the London Victoria area that has a spare knocking around?
I'd rather not have my lights go out when I'm on the M20 at 5 in the morning, lol

Cheers

Update:

Will a fan belt from a 200tdi disco fit my 110 N/A?
I have a seperate belt for my power steering but thats fine(ish)

No, I don't think so. The defenders fan belt runs the water pump and alternator, and a separate one for the p/s. I think the disco one runs the ps pump and the water pump, and a separate one for the alternator, from what I can remember doing a disco conversion into a defender.
Can always try it though, if not theres gotta be something you can bodge it with for now??

Cheers mate
I'm having one delivered as we speak so I'll give it ago.

It's only got to get home in the morning (42 miles)

Off your head do you know if they're too short or too long?

I can't remember, think they might be too long and too thick also. They might be the right size after all though! Guess we'll know in a few hours time:D

Lol, yeah!

I'll let you know.

If it's too long I can wing it:D

Nope!!!

The belt was a bit too thick for the alternator.
Ahh well, guess I'm going to have to see ho far I get before it all goes dark. LOL

Managed to get 2 miles from my house and had to walk the rest.

The battery was fine, the problem was over heating. As soon as I tried to change down a gear to come off the motorway I stalled. Smoke all over the place, the oil cap had come off and chucked oil all over the engine bay (nice)!!

Am I likely to have done any damage?

I've left it where it is to cool down then later today I'll go back with a new belt and a big bottle of oil (may as well change the filter while I'm at it.

didn't you have a piece of rope, that old one works sometimes.

does the engine still turn over?

It did until I set light to the wiring earlier today!!

LAUGH OR CRY?

Got a pair of new belts today, got the old PS belt off and the new fan belt on, trying to get the rear bolt back into the alternator I managed to arc the wiring onto the engine. A nice (very small) fire ensued but quickly went out on its own with very little damage, but a fair bit of wiring needs to be changed.

One phone call later and a mate of mine (sparky) is up to spending a few hours by the M20 tomorrow afternoon to replace said wiring.

Also managed to get 8 litres of water back into the header tank!! But not a single water leak.
The one saving grace is that as my oilcap doesn't screw on the pressure blow it off instead of damaging the pistons.

Ho hum
Just another average day

I reckon it'll be ok, N/A's are pretty bomb proof, no turbo to starve of oil ect. Thats why the army uses them, squaddie proof:D Chuck some oil in and water and see what she does.
If it is knackered then I know someone with a preserved army N/A engine, was left in storage for years. Only done about 20k then taken out for a Tdi conversion. Pretty sure it was going good, just chappy wanted more power out of his 110!

Mornin!

Well, I built a new wiring loom by the side of the road yesterday and all's peachy with that.

However.....

My starter motor is now shot so I'll replace that during the week.

Also though,I bump started her and I've got some miss-firing and alot of smoke and water coming from the exhaust, Head Gasket?

Could probably use some help with this one as it's all new to me.

Ben
Thanks for the offer, any ideas how much it'll be going for?

Tim has managed to haggle a guy out of his 200tdi disco engine for next to nothing so I'll see how that goes.

If it does go boobs up then It's nice to know of a second option

If you can get a 200 then go for that fella!
Missfire and using water probably is head gasket, whats the oil like? Custardy?

Cheers, Ben

The water isn't shooting out of the header tank or the oil not bubbling out of the engine when I turn the engine over which I thought where the signs of a duff head gasket.

Hopefully the 200 should be ready in about a month.
