Have just got back from a couple of weeks in Morocco. We were part of a group and we covered the RIF mountains and the Sahara. We had a fantastic time and would definately recommend it.

It was a mix of camp sites, hotels and wild camping. The scenary was great and the off roading was brilliant.

A word of warning about European Breakdown cover. We broke down on our way back to Spain on the last day and called the RAC for recovery. We had full European cover and thought it would be a doddle to get our Landy repatriated.

First thing, dont expect things to happen in a hurry in Spain, they do things in their own good time, and every time you need help its Siesta time!

Next thing, make sure you have plenty of credit on your phone, as you will have to call a number in France, regardless of who you have cover with. This increases the delays.

We had to wait to find out if they would bring our Landy back. They had to check the market value of our Landy, and if it was lower than the repatriation costs then they would not repatriate it. If it had been lower then we would have been given the option of leaving it in Spain to have the repairs done at our cost, or the Landy scrapped and given the market value.

Next we had to wait to see if the policy limit actually covered the cost of repatriation. The limit was £2500, and out of this come ALL costs, ie hotels, taxis, hire cars and repatriation etc. So be careful how much you spend/claim, make sure there is enough left over for the repatriation of your vehicle.

It also takes about 10~14 working days, once the paperwork is sorted, for your vehicle to get home.

All of these issues has in no way changed our minds about going to Morocco again, we had a great time. I have attached a few photo's of some places we visited and camped.

Cheers

We had a great time, and now that the paper work has been sorted our Landy is being repatriated. It should turn up the end of next week or early the week after.

Incidentaly I just found out that we had £250 of our £2500 limit left over. Hopefully the problem is not major, he says with fingers crossed.

It was over heating after about 15 miles or so, ie temp guage in the red, no water escaping anywhere, lots of pressure in the header tank. Hoping it is a blockage somewhere. Will have it all apart when it gets back.

We also had a bearing go in the rear diff while in Morocco. But a local garage rebuilt the entire diff, after driving to Tangers to get the parts, and they did this on a Friday (equivalent to our Sunday). Dropped the Landy with them at noon and they drove it back to us all done at 9:30 that same night. Absolutely astonished when they told me the price...............£200 :D Excellent service, try that at a Landy dealership!!!!

We went out there this time last year with Protrax/LRO and had an awesome time.

Funnily enough we also broke down in Spain, about 40mile in from the South coast. Our gearbox went and left us on the side of the motorway. Luckily we found that our 4th gear work so we crawled off and ino the service area.

It was then we discovered that all the forms for the recovery service had been left at home so we really had no option but to carry on with 4th gear only. Still, we made it to the ferry (680miles through spain) and home from the ferry at this end.
