Well I'm fed up with it now. MrsSpanners disco is playing up.
Went for a drive to the local forest on Sunday, a short hop of about 40 miles, have the entire spanner family on board, including the three dogs, Halfway there Babyspanner announces that the dog has been sick!!, ten miles farther on 'Da, the dogs yakked again', six miles later...... Jaysus, is there anything left inside that Feckin animal?????
It was after thinking what could has precipitated this, i noticed the pitching and rolling of the vehicle, and everytime i hit an undulation in the road, the back of the car would bounce around like a witches boobs!
When i checked, i found that both shock absorbers were completely Banjaxed. so we were riding the springs only. I would normally accept this and replace them. Except this pair had been fitted only 3 months ago, were brand new, stored correctly and primed before use. They are the Armstrong make and allegedly were the uprated type (according to the code stamp, this would certainly ring true) and the price was definately uprated, €50 each.
I've had these before and been happy with them, so why would these ones be duff. considering that the vehicle is MrsSpanners daily work vehicle and never goes off road. Also worth noting, that it has never been overloaded with anything heavier than shopping, guns and ammunition.
Is it just me being fussy, or is it a Discovery trait! Has anyone had similar problems with theirs.
More importantly, can anyone suggest a reliable make of shock absorber that will do its job without breaking the bank!

In light of this problem, I'm now calling the Disco 'Naomi' after a certain stroppy and ill behaved model.....

I've never had a problem with Armstrongs in the past, maybe yours were from a faulty batch?
If they are only 3 months old they will surely be covered under warranty, maybe try a set of Pro Comps or Monroes.

My De Carbons have been to the desert 3 times and covered about 50,000 miles since fitting in 2003/4 ish they still work well. Fitted them all round ant the back has fully loaded many times when encountering corrugations in the desert. About the same price £50 each from what I remember.
Sorry I wasn't here to answer your question last night, working until 9pm.

are the De-Carbons gas or oil filled? Thanks for your reply by the way, i was just surprised i got so many thread viewings but no one offering advice like they do usually.
I was toying with the idea of installing two shockers per side on the rear axle, so effectively they would be doing half the work, and therefore not getting as hot.
My other mad idea was to replace the springs with H/D 110 springs, but found they are a larger Diameter and won't fit in the chassis mounting seat....ooops!

Hi Spanner110, I fitted standard Armstrongs to the rear of my wifes Disco and after 30 000mls still seem to be fine.

We don't do hard stuff with the Disco, just tarmac and greenlaning, but even so.....................................
