'98 Disco I 4.0 V8 (Electronic Ignition - no distributor...)

Have had problems that my Can/OBDII reader stated as "Camshaft Positioning Sensor" outta wack, and upon investigation into the shop manual learned that if that sensor fails then the ignition will fire normally OR one degree out of phase = won't run...Had already changed all plugs and wires, checked Air Flow meter, nothing else appears wrong...

So purchased new Camshaft sensor and installed - engine doesn't miss anymore, but won't idle! It cranks up, then races between 750-1250 rpm, and on the neighborhood test drive (nighttime) would stall out when headlights are turned on! The idle hasn't resumed its previously happy state...did this new sensor (a genuine part) somehow throw my ECU for a loop (is there a way to reset it?) or possibly a bad sensor unit?

Appreciate any insight!
