Hi all I'm a newbie here and hope one of you can possibly help.Just bought a 1996 300TDI.It came with just one key with remote. This key only fits the ignition switch and not the doors so I have to use the remote to open the doors.Am bothered that if the remote fails I won't be able to use the car.I'm assuming that at some time the ignition switch has been replaced and the doorkeys have been lost. Will I be able to go to Landrover and order a new ignition switch using the logbook in the hope that the replacement key will also fit the doors?i.e. the new key being an "original"?Or will I have to replace all the other locks(leaving me with a bunch of keys like a jailer)? The present ignition switch is faulty anyway as if I turn it to its full extent the starter doesnt work.I have to stop turning the key as soon as I hear the starter begin to spin.
Any help gratefully received.

It could be that your door locks are just seized due to lack of use - if the car has been locked by the remote all its life the lock barrels will seize, so try WD40 etc. If as you say the ignition barrel needs replacing you will have to replace the door locks as well - not as expensive as you might think - to have a single key system. You can get an after market remote and program it along with the one you have for a spare.
I no longer use my remote to lock the car as I can carry a spare key but I can't carry a spare remote. The car is still alarmed on the key. Good luck.
