Because if it is a problem now it will be no hope in winter. New HT leads and plugs are on route as we speak.

It is a 1994 3.9 'soft dash' M reg with EAS.

Many thanks in advance :)

I'm a new member, and own a Freelander 1.8 petrol, 53 plate, 30,000 recorded miles.
I like the drive, but have had problems with the gear selection , and rear door leaks into under-floor storeage. Leaks sorted, and gear selection appears to have eased by itself.

Recently I noticed that my coolant level was low, and topped up with 50/50 water and anti-freeze, and thought no more about it. The vehicle was running like a dream, and the running temperature ok. The heater worked well after top-up, but but cooled off after a day or so. Time to top up coolant again. There was no leakage under the car, so the coolant must have been going somewhere. I did notice air bubbles coming up into the expansion bottle.

As my Freelander was due for it's annual service, and MOT, I booked it in. Mentioned the coolant loss, and a rear stop light that needed replacing. Told them no other problems.

I received a call from the Land Rover dealership, and was told that the coolant had been leaking into the engine, and mixing with the oil - engine may have to be replaced! They promised to removed the head, and assess the damage. Next day received another call from the dealer - to replace engine with a new [reconditioned] engine was my only option - my engine was not repairable as they said the "sleeves had dropped into the engine" [whatever that means].

Cost of reconditioned engine £2,300!

This is a very expensive solution for my Freelander coolant problem, and I suggest all owners should keep an eagle eye on the coolant level to avoid the above cost.
My coolant loss was only over a few weeks, but enough to cause irrepairable damage.

I would like to know if the upper bolt(highest of about 6) screws into the steering pump bracket or should it go through the bracket and into the engine block.

When I removed the bolt there was a sort of cast around the bolt thread which may have been stripped from the pump mounting bracket. I`m not sure.
One thing is sure the bolt that was in won`t bite into anything.
I`d be grateful for any advice on this.

I have a new Defender and purchased a Hannibal roof rack which is installed. Today a dealer said this model was not good because the full length gutter bars stopped the flexibility in the roof and could crack the body. This view is supported in one of the threads "Exped Roof Rack", but in the same thread wytco0 says "go fir full length gutter bars so as to spread the weight" and describes how having individual feet can cause cracks...

Is there any conclusion to this debate? The dealer was recommending a Frontrunner roofrack.

I am just wondering about replacing the timing belt in the 200 I have in my rebuild. My main question is about the locking pin hole. I understand (haven't looked yet) that it is fouled by the xmember, so I just wondered what the best way to do it is when I come to do it.

It was suggested to me to drill through the xmember, but I would rather not. Is it possible to jack the gearbox enough to tilt the engine to give access?

Is there some other method of doing the timing that doesn't involve the locking pins?

Cheers
