Unforseen circumstances and all that (nothing to do with me by the way).
I had two interviews, was offered the job a couple of days after the second one, and I accepted. I was phoned approx a week+ a go to be asked if everything was ok my end, notice handed in etc, and just confirming my start date, now a phonecall yesterday telling me the opposite really..

This is to work for a big international company, but I don't want to say anymore than that.

I am furious as you could imagine, as I have handed my notice in and am leaving my current job (of 8 years) in a couple of days, with no hope of staying on there.

Where do I stand?

Thanks

was up in Stourbridge visiting a job and came upon a skip wagon parked across the road loading up. He must have just got there so as I was first in line i switched off and settled back to watch. Anyhows a few cars came up behind and did the same when all of a sudden a woman 'of a certain age' (well maintained if you know what i mean ;) ) in a new rangey suddenly pulls up alongside me. Clearly impatient and intending to squeeze past - not a hope there was only about three and half foot from his bumper to the wall of the house on the other side of the road.

She sneaks up and starts to edge over, again obviously intending to push in front of me. grrrr. She hadn't planned for the nice skip driver though who once he had loaded up, instead of just manouvering and then driving off he carefully turned his wagon and then reversed the wagon down the side of the road in front of her and waved me through :)

I must admit to a mighty chuckle when i looked across to see her turning purple with rage at her sneaky plan being foiled :) It fair made my day

One of Britain's best-known motor sport firms, Lola Cars International, has confirmed that it intends to enter administration
Lola Cars International was formed in 1958 by Eric Broadley.

Lola Cars International is to go into administration, parent company Lola Group Holdings has confirmed today.
The group’s fabrication arm, Lola Composites, will also be affected by the decision to appoint an administrator to handle its affairs. Both companies are based at the group’s headquarters in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.
Lola Cars International was created by automotive engineer Eric Broadley in 1958 and enjoyed prolific success across many motor sport disciplines, particularly sports cars and Indycar racing. Former racer and entrepreneur Martin Birrane acquired the company in 1997.
In recent years, the firm diversified into other industry areas, creating Lola Composites Limited to work in the defence, aerospace, communications, renewable energy, automotive and motorsports markets. The company worked with Caterham on elements of the latter’s hardcore SP/300R track day car.
The move to appoint an administrator has been blamed on "the economic downturn and the decision of HM Revenue and Customs not to pay ongoing research and development tax credits". The combined effect of those factors has caused a serious cash flow problem for the two elements of Lola’s business.
A statement from Lola said appointing an administrator would allow “the Lola board to continue its discussions with possible investors and prospective purchasers with a view to securing the best outcome for the staff, creditors and customers of both businesses”.
The company said it would make no further comment on the situation until next Monday, 21 May.

The DBS may be Aston Martin’s flagship sports car, but it’s in a market segment that shows little sign of significant growth. That’s why the firm has explored the launch of an SUV by reviving the Lagonda nameplate on a super-luxury 4x4.Although the design shown at Geneva in 2009 didn’t meet with critical acclaim, the Lagonda project is very much alive and Aston boss Ulrich Bez has recently alluded to an updated Lagonda concept “in the coming year”. A second Lagonda model, a saloon, has already been mooted.
Bentley’s £150k-plus ‘Falcon’ concept will have also encouraged Aston; the Lagonda and Falcon are similarly brutal and statuesque.
Both British SUVs will go a long way to better exploiting demand in the Chinese market, where the appeal of super-GTs like the DBS is limited.
“The DBS sells in a global market segment that is struggling to rebound back
to where it was, and that’s largely down to China,”
said IHS Automotive analyst Colin Couchman.
“The traditional markets for supercars — the US and Europe — are still depressed,” he added. “Although the Chinese market remains buoyant, that won’t feed through to Aston because the Chinese don’t yet see the value of displaying their wealth through owning an expensive sports car.”
IHS figures show — based on models in the £160k to sub-£200k bracket — that the global super-GT coupé market won’t recover to its pre-recession high of just over 9200 units in 2008 until 2014 at the earliest. That’s despite the launch of the successful Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG in 2010, a car that has expanded global sales by about 2700 cars a year.
The global popularity of Merc’s second luxury coupé — the AMG-tuned CL — shouldn’t be underestimated, either. It accounts for about a quarter of the market, vying with the £178k Ferrari 458 for the title of best-seller. A new CL AMG is due to arrive in 2015, potentially giving the segment a welcome nudge upwards.
The DBS coupé operates in a more exclusive, niche position, peaking in 2009 with 691 units and 2010 at 824 with the Volante. The coupé has averaged 475 cars a year over the past five years, which is just five per cent of global sales in the super-GT coupé segment. Even its nearest price rival, the Lamborghini Gallardo, takes about twice that, according to IHS.
So with sales of super-GTs only trickling along, it’s easy to see why supercar makers are turning to SUVs, which are proving much more resilient to the recession. That’s particularly because they can be used every day in countries like China, India and Russia, where poor road infrastructure can make a low-slung two-seater impractical.
It’s why Lamborghini recently showed its £150k Urus concept in Beijing and why Bentley will give the Falcon the go-ahead this year.
It must be no coincidence that the Falcon is tipped to start at about £150k, so top-end models will nudge £170k-£180k, the sweet spot where the DBS, 458, CL AMG and SLS models converge.

The all-new, fourth-generation Range Rover is shedding more of its camouflage, giving the clearest indication yet of its styling before its launch later this year.

The latest prototype, scooped testing yesterday in the Midlands, reveals the evolutionary looks of the new car. Land Rover has opted against a significant styling overhaul of its most luxurious model, given the longevity and popularity of the current design.
The front-end styling has been modernised and softened slightly from before; the biggest change is to the front headlights, which wrap around slightly into the sides of the car.
The boxy profile of the third-generation Range Rover has been softened slightly for the new car, although Land Rover has decided against giving the new model a more Evoque-style sloping roofline that earlier prototypes featured. One big change is rear cabin access; the rear doorlines are raked further backwards to create a wider opening.
The changes have also been kept to a minimum at the rear, the biggest news being slimmed down light clusters.
The real changes to the new car will be under the skin and in the cabin. The new Range Rover will be first Jaguar Land Rover model to adopt the all-new modular aluminium monocoque platform that will be used beneath the firm’s next generation of mid-full size cars.
The new architecture should result in a significant weight saving – as much as 400kg – over today’s heavyweight Range Rover. The new platform is also said to offer a significant increase in rear legroom, one of the chief criticisms of today’s car.
Inside, a greater emphasis than ever will be placed on luxury as Land Rover looks to beat the likes of Bentley, Maserati and Aston Martin to the super-luxury SUV market. Expect features from last year’s £125,000 Autobiography Ultimate Edition – such as individual rear seats and a bespoke rear centre console milled from a single piece of aluminium – to carry over into top-end £120,000 versions of the new car.
The entry-level model is expected to cost from around £65,000, and is likely to be revealed at the Paris motor show in September before going on sale early next year.
