    Default vehicle brake test--costa rica

    Buenos dias!

I finally discovered how a Defender is dealt with in the Riteve brake test. This is a single axle system for which you will find dire warnings in the handbooks because the Defender has permanent 4-wheel drive. People in the dealership said not to worry because the rollers run very slowly. Not true.

Of course, as soon as I put the front axle on the rollers the vehicle jumped out due to the drive being transmitted to the rear axle. The operator then punched in "euro-4x4 system" which split the roller in two so only one wheel is tested at a time.

This testing system was imported from Spain and I suspect the braking element is made in Italy.

In any event we passed easily, and no damage seems to have been done.

    Hasta luego

Hadn't thought about that. I've seen similar systems used here in South Africa and had never given a thought to the four wheel drive system. Obviously I didn't have a concern when my Series went onto it.

    Hi Kevin!

I have a series 3 also but it behaves like a conventional vehicle in high-range.

After additional googling it looks as if the origin of the test equipment is MAHA in Germany.

Am now working on the S3 brakes to pass the next test. Emissions are no problem for diesels here, thank God.
