Default rear door lock problem disco 2

slight prob with my discovery, i cant open the back door with the key fob, if i climb over the rear seats i can pull the door handle which unlocks it, it then works fine i can lock it with the key fob, but it still wont unlock unless i climb in to the boot, ive sprayed all the rear lock with wd40, emailed a chap on ebay who sells the springs, has anybody had the same prob?

I may be wrong with this but i believe that the Disco 2 dosen't have the same problem with door springs as earlier disco's / Range Rovers.

My inital thoughts where the disco 2 does not have this fault but I "think" the back door is the same mech as the Disco 1

This happend to mine. I had to get a new tailgate latch. I got it 2nd hand off ebay for 30 quid. New ones are about 50 so might be worth getting a new one.

This is a common fault in the D2. I took mine out and lubed the mech. It worked ok till the next day. There are no springs. It's just a bosch lock unit which looks pretty much sealed.

It's an easy job to replace it. From memory...

Rear interior handle off - 2 bolts
Prise latch side of door card off carefully
There 3 allen screws at the latch that have to come out.
Undo the linkages and the lock can be taken out.

The LR RAVE workshop CD was useful, 3 quid or so off ebay.

    Cheers

I got a little lucky I guess as the lock was fine when this happened to me a couple of months ago.

Pulled the LR badge off the outside grip and used WD40 on the horizontal pin. The simptom was that "sometimes" you could open from the outside but eventually the grip got stuck and even with a screw driver to help I could not get it to return to the correct position to open it.

I too took the pannel off and then the lock but found nothing wrong. All the problem was with the pivot that you can get to through the LR badge hole.
    Hope this helps.

    Evening All,

I removed the latch from my Disco 2 (2004 model) and sprayed WD40 all over (and inside) it. Put it back in and still it will not unlock with the key fob or interior central locking switch. Once the door is unlocked, it can be opened and closed easily, just cannot get it to unlock.
Not a great time for this to happen, as I now have an urgent need to use the boot.

Any ideas anyone, as well as where I can get a new latch (and cost) if required.

    Thanks in Advance.

Yes, I saw this, but was hoping that someone would recommend a cheaper site to purchase the latch. 79 is way steep, in my humble opinion.

While on the subject, does anyone know what the clips are called that hold the trim casing to the door and where they can be sourced if not on the 'Here' website. I am raising this now on this thread, as I am sure others doing this will also need some spares.

I forgot to ask. Do you think replacing the latch will resolve the issue? Or is there something else that could be causing the issue, based on the symptoms I have posted.

I got my rear doorcard clips from landrover maindealer - my mate paid the above "here" price which we couldnt find cheaper anywhere else , he was plagued by the same problem and spent many unhappy hours breaking in his boot thru the dog guard etc and oiling and cleaning (fettling) things to no avail - might work one day then not the next ,,, replaced for new expensive lock and no more problems on that front.

his one would also not unlock and / or the handle didnt open the door as still locked

Ye thats right Old Skool, I certainly did bite the bullet.

Bought the part from the main dealer for 80, 77 on ebay so no real saving there. Also for anyone else doing this. Don't forget the tailgate casement clips. These you can get on ebay for half the MD price.

my rear Tailgate lock failed today. The door is closed and cannot be opened from inside or from outside. I have taken of the card and had a peek inside cannot seem to find a way of releasing the door.
Any ideas on getting the door open would be very welcome.
    Thanks
