Thread: Clutch adjustment

    Default Clutch adjustment

    'Sensible, helpful answers only please'.

    1.8 petrol 53 plate 5 door.

I have to dpress my clutch pedal all the way and be very careful when releasing. It bites about 2 inches from the floor.

Is there something I can do to adjust it or should I be checking the Master cylinder for failure.

    Shifty,
the clutch on a FL is hydraulic, and therefore not adjustable.
    2 possiblities:
First, your clutch is worn out and you are going to have to replace it. How many miles has it done?
Second, there have been reports a bracket somewhere either bending or breaking, I think near the master cylinder. It might be worth checking there.

The bracket is the one that holds the slave cylinder on Graham. They fracture and twist when you press the pedal. Eventually they break off.

Check the lugs that the slave fits in and just behind them.

If there is a fluid loss, you can't bleed the system, it's sealed, as G says.

About 50 and less than an hour to fit. You get the full system in a box and feed it behind various pipes and clip to the bulkhead.

Give the clutch release arm shaft a good soak in WD40, they seize.

Thanks Chris. Senior moment and couldn't think of which one it was!

And I've sorted my problem out as well.
