Question Jolting on automatic gearbox when cold

My Freelander V6 Sport (2001) has developed a jolt when changing gear when the engine is cold. I have checked the oil level and this is fine and clean. Transmission is fine. Once the engine warms up the gearbox appears to be smooth and changing ok. Any suggestions?

Agree with LovroD, fresh oil usually results in a smoother shift. It should be changed every 60k. Has it ever been done?

Hi, Thanks for info. My Freelander has a GS badge and the gear change has a sport mode. The Registration certificate also calls it a GS Auto. I think this refers to Grand Sport.

I don't know if non Sport auto Freelanders have or don't have SPORT MODE on gearshift ...

Mine has also SPORT mode but in mine registration certificate is no sign for Sport, but this can be also because in my country a lot of same cars with same equipment has very different names in papers ...

    Thanks for info!

But anyway it does not matter is it Sport or not Sport it drives great!

The FREELANDER SPORT was a seperate model that had lowered suspension and, I think, all were fitted with 18" alloy wheels and low profile tyres.

Yes I agree with Llanigraham, the Sport model is distinctive by it wheels and stickers. Also it does sit lower but that is about it. It doesn't go any faster but does go marginally around bends better. Only prob is that ride is harder so not as comfy as standard models! (Had one on loan once!)

The sport mode on the gears doesn't mean you have a sport model, it means that under acceleration, it waits until you have higher revs before the box changes up, nothing more, nothing less.
The difference between normal and sport mode is IMHO insignificant.
