Talking How to increase TDi MPG

    Simple - go offroading.

Ever since I bought the Disco, it has been returning 23-25 mpg.

Ever since it's first offroading excursion it has been returning 30mpg. I think I must have shifted summat (Argghhhh - northern phrase alert)

    Before: 380 miles per tank
    After: 450 miles per tank

    Am I a happy bunny!!!

    Lightbulb Extra mpg

How about 250 miles on 4 gallons of petrol in mine?
OK then, so it had a ride on the back of the AA truck for most of the way when the valve seat went AWOL, but good fuel consumption eh!
If there wasn't petrol - I would pedal

Try disconnecting the connector to the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve. This is reputed to give 1-2 mpg improvement. Don't forget to connect it back up for the MoT though otherwise it MIGHT fail its emissions test.

Default 200 Tdi better fuel consumption

Fitting a larger intercooler helps provided you do not use the better performance you also get.
If you are soft on the go pedal the fuel figures go down significantly.

I do not think that the EGR malfunction will make any difference to the MOT test, the 'gases' it reduces are not measured in the test.

The best way to disable the EGR is to place a ball bearing in the 'vacuum' tube which operates the valve. This way you do not affect any electronic signals being sent to the ECU.

    Hope this helps!

Lightbulb Better mpg from Tdi engine (LPG ?)

    Fellow listers,

I am considering adding LPG to my car (the 1994 CT Discovery 200Tdi since the 1993 one is already fitted with a larger intercooler, hybrid turbo, recalibrated fuel pump and foam air filter and goes like the wind)
I have read extensively on the internet about such conversions run in the USA and have found a CHEAP (in price) source for such LPG to diesel kits. They are DIY and only require the addition of the LPG tank since every car has specific space restrictions and fuel tank capacity.

The cost of such a kit (without the carriage charges from the USA and the LPG tank) is about 800 US$ which is nothing compared to the 2000 pounds plus VAT asked by UK based companies.

I will order one, try it on my car and revert.

BTW if anyone is interested into jumping in a group purchase contact me direct on pantg@otenet.gr

The kit provides performance upgrade of up to 30% with bteer mpg of up to 25% when both are asked for. Otherwise either economy or performance increases in the loss of the other factor.

    Take care

    Default LPG and diesel

    People Hi,

After John Barret's tip on www.difflock.com testing one of these systems I have searched the site's archives and have found the test it is here:
    http://www.difflock.com/lpg/Arun-diesel.shtml

What I know for sure is that we can get the DIY version of this kit for significantly less than what they charge. But you will need to provide the installation (it is a DIY kit) and the propane tank which does not have to be a high pressure one since there is no need for liquid gas just vapour pressurized.

cost is around 800 US$ not including carriage from the USA and taxes (import duties to either the UK or Greece)
That is about 570 UK pounds.

Almost 1/4 of what they charge for the complete installation.

    Take care
    Pantelis

P.S. After reading the test I am now ready to order a kit for me.
So if you are interested give me a call at pantg@otenet.gr and we can discuss about a group purchase.
