My problem is that I find it difficult to plan too far in advance outside of school holidays because I never know when a client needs me out of the country. I have some work in Zim and Chad coming up, but I'll only know when it's happeneing at short notice.

Keep me in the loop though. If I can make it, I'd love to.

Sounds promising! It would be great to have someone with local knowledge along. We'll be enterning Moz from Ponta do Ouro on Jan 14th and staying at Parque de Malongane until the 2oth and then heading up to Marracuene.

I suggest you take the scenic route to Zim ie JHB - MOZ - Tanzania - Malawi - Zim .

I installed my 40l water tank yesterday so now i can do the final measurements for the load and drawer system. The tank is off centre and the piping runs down through the floor of the load area and into the cavity in the body in front of the rear left wheel. I have a gardena attachment on the hose which i can coonect to a longer hose with a lockable tap. The trick is to store the hose in a way that it doent get damaged from stones while driving off road. I have a spare water tank which will go on the roof rack along with a spare jerry tank.

Also going to the sparky to have him install the dual battery. I have ordered 4 LED strips from Maizeys plastics (R 147 ea) and will have him install those as well, one on each of the canopies doors and a spare.

Hi all.

Have finally decided on Shocks and tyres! i am going to have the Monroe Rancho RS 9000 XL's and Bf Goodrich Mud Terrain KM 2's fitted on Tuesday. The RS 9000 XL'S are front R727 ea incl vat and rear R889 ea incl vat and fitment. Not bad hey! These shocks are comparable to Old man emu and iron man but at half the price. Anyone looking for a set can speak to Michellene at Midas Goodwood. I am sourcing mine through Tyger tyres in Durban road. The current shocks will be kept as spares.

The tyres arent as pretty as my wranglers but are apparently bulletproof (i wish) so i will take 2 wranglers as spares coz they are the same size, and will leave the other 2 here so hopefully i wont use the spares and can put them back on the Rangy (if i dont sell her) when we get back. I need to get Mud terrain coz we will be going through Moz and Tanzania in the rainy season.

Also recieved my spares from Leimers land rover. I bought far too many oil anf fuel filters but i will need them as long as i have the 130.

I didn't have any problems with Biques. I last stayed there a good few years back, but it was clean and quiet. As camp site it was perfectly acceptable and the restaurant was reasonable.

There are some REALLY good restaurants in Beira.

Biques great if you want to be chatted up by prostitutes. If you park your tent on the beach under the pine trees the prozzies get to throw their used condoms out of the caravan windows onto your tent.

I won't be going back there. Rio Savane is rather nice though.

too bad about the sex workers! not really a family environment. I have heard so much about the wonderful sea food in Moz but since my mom in law tried to kill me with prawns in 2000 (i developed a mysterious near fatal allergic reaction) i will have to stick to linefish and piri piri chicken.

Places to stay in Tanzania? And do you guys think i am wasting my time planning the route to pemba west to the unity bridge and then back up the coast to Dar? considering that i am driving alone and the rains should be coming down in Jan.

The area around Pemba is really beautiful and worth a visit. Pemba itself isn't the greatest place, but you should see places like Matemo Island and the other islands of the Quirimbas and places like Mocimboa da Praia and Palmas.

Spent the day at Tyger fitment centre in Durban road. They fitted the Rancho shocks, the bf goodrich mud tyres and skimmed the brake discs and put in new front pads. The original shocks were absolutely shot and had zero spring left. the wife describes the ride as like being in a greyhound bus or an old merc so maybe its a bit soft but they have 9 settings so i will have to see what works best. Tyres are stunning. the vibration at 100 - 120 kmh is gone which is due to the new shocks and the road noise is less than with the wranglers.

and... with all the work i have seen done on my td5 from replacing the gearbox to doing the brakes etc, i havent seen anyone hook up the ECU, so i reckon most repairs except for major engine repairs can be done without the need for codes. And if i have major engine work to be done on the road then im pretty much stuffed anyway.
