Hi folks, I'm preparing a 200tdi to go into a series 2, but fell at the first hurdle! How do I remove the viscous fan? I see the big nut at the back, but how do I stop the shaft turning?

long screwdriver and hammer just off centre to the right. "chisel" it loose.
Its left hand thread!
Once its loose you can turn it off by hand. Leave the belt on that will help.

If you use the correct size spanner and knock it the right way, the friction of the fan belt will stop the centre thread turning and enable it to be removed.
The turning bit (Fan) is the 'other' side of the coupling, you have to undo the bit that is on the waterpump spindle or whatever. The spanner is 36mm on the V8, don't know what the 200tdi is, but is probably the same.

Thanks guys. Am I glad you told me it's a left hand thread! It could have been a long evening.
