Hi Baz, at the moment I still have the original radio/cassette player installed in my 02 TD4 and would love to update to a CD player, but I am not a tehincal wizzo and don't know how difficult the change would be, or even where the changer unit fits. One reason I haven't updated so far is that I wanted a genuine LR system. presumably it will work with the existing steering wheel controls?

Any advice or further information greatly appreciated.

    many thanks.

Hi,this is a R770 model head unit, honestly its a piece of cake to fit.The cd changer should fit under your drivers front seat. This unit should just push straight in the slot on your dash.It all works , but my major mistake was that i did not realise that the head unit works through your clock display on your freelander dash which it is not compatable for my disco. So as long as you have the clock display on your dash it will work.It really is a nice piece of kit.
You can get the fitting instructions from landrover or the internet.
    Regards Baz

Baz, Thanks for the information, I am now more confused than ever. Two things; firstly my current LR OE radio/cassette does not use the dashboard nor clock display, it is self contained. In fact the clock is not on the dash as such it is set back on the centre front parcel shelf. Secondly when I looked up R770 on the net the only references I got were to a LR (Philips) radio/cassette player with photographs.

In the original instruction manual provided when I bought the FL was a manual referring to a radio/CD unit (both single and multiple play), but again it appeared to be "self contained" with a front display panel of its own. This is the unit I would ideally like to obtain. Failing this I may go ahead and get a new unit complete with Blue tooth. Does anyone have experience of these B/T units? At the moment I us a B/T headset.

I would also like to say thanks to the guys organising courses in "drivel", just let me know when and where the next course is, I have a penchant for choccie biccies too!!

As a last thought do an of you enthusiasts have one of the units I am looking for tucked away in your garage or shed?

    Confusion reigns!!

There are several different radio/CD systems fitted to FL's, and a lot depends on which year the FL was made. The radios from the first "series" (pre-facelift) wil not easily fit the later cars. So we need to know exactly which car the "freewill" has. Is it the plain dash or the dash with the silvery bits down the sides?

I suspect that it is the later. In that case the OP's unit will not fit.

sorry mate, the units are from a 1998-2000 model as i have the booklets aswell. It does show in the book there is a clock on the dash and you can tune your head unit and read the head unit info such as stations ans track numbers.

Baz, correct you have the pre-facelift unit then. Yes that does use the dash top clock for it's display.

    Hi Guys,

I hate to be a bore on this but it is abit confusing. I have a TD4 reg Sept 2002. It doesn't have silver bits down the side, it's all black as per the rest of the interior trim. But the radio/cassette is self contained with its own display.

This pobably doesn't help but hey ho!!
