Like I said eariler, when you have put a new uj in, tap the yoke with a hammer and this beds the needle rollers and makes it turn all nice.
Land Roveronelife.liveit.
The UJ bearing caps were fitted with a hammer as it wouldn't fit in my vice.

The caps should be pressed/pushed onto the spigot only as far in as needed to replace the circlip if you push them too far you can damage the roller carrier or the seal or both, you may be replacing these soon![]()

You take UJs apart by using a copper hammer and a vice. Knock the yoke as the other half lays across the vice jaws and the cup comes out.
If you knock the cups in with a hammer, the needle rollers can move and jam in the cup bottom.
Put the cross in the yoke and push it through one hole, put the cup on and push it about halfway through the yoke. Move the cross the other way and put the cup on, then push it back. The rollers should then always be in contact with the UJ cross. If you need to tap the cups a little, then you wil be fine, but gentle vice or press pressure is far better.
If the UJ is a bit tight when the circlips are in, a couple of clouts on the back of thre yolk withthe copper hammer will sort it. the yolks sometimes get moved together and out of alignment.
A hammer in the right hands is a wonderful tool...
but give it to an idiot and...

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, the trouble is, yours is ridiculous.

A g clamp can also be used to push the caps onto the spigot using a socket to press against the cap using the method described above.
if youve got the needles bent in one cap which may be the cause of hte tightness youll soon find out cos it will fail quickly and wobble, if it's just tight cos the caps a bit too far in it will free itself and be ok.
youve had a go and it will be easier next time thats all that matters in the end. Keep trying new things thats how we all learn.

What is the worst outcome of worn UJ's and drivetrain play, just out of curisoty?
Worst case is that a UJ lets go.. the prop can then merily flail away smashing the ender side of the truck, usually the drivers footwell
Or it can dig in and try to stop you..
This as I say is worst case, and you would have to let your UJ's get into a very bad state before they let go completely!

Worn UJs will vibrate all over the place as they wear though, the vibration caused by this might be able to damage other bits of the transmission but I'm not sure. The play in my diffs means I can roll a bit before the handbrake takes effect and if it gets worse on the rear diff there will be a clunking/knocking when I come on/off the throttle.
