Default Key Fob / Immobiliser Issues.

Hi all, My dads having a few issues with the key fob and immobiliser on his Freelander, last night the fob stopped working and wouldn't lock or unlock the doors. He changed the battery and still nothing, on opening the door with the key the immobiliser stays on so can't start it.
We've tried the Emergency Key Access and this opens the doors, turns off the alarm and the immobiliser and allows us to start the engine and use it. But on turning off the engine and locking the doors the immobiliser comes back on and stays on and we have to use the Emergency Key Access again to get the engine to start.
We've tried the resynchronising the fob as per the book (both ways) and we've tried doing it before and after diss-arming the alarm and immobiliser with the Emergency Key Access but it's still not working.

Does this sound like the key fob has given up or are we missing something?

Thanks, we can't see any obvious problem with the internals of the fob. Is there a way to dissable the immobiliser so we don't have to use the emergency key access everytime?

No, it is part of the ECU. Just use the key to lock and unlock the doors until you can get it fixed. Also actually check that the new battery fitted actually works.
    Do you have 2 fobs?

We only have 1 fob and the new battery is ok.
The problem isn't with locking and unlocking it's that the immobiliser kicks in every time the engine is shut off and we have to use the Emergency Key Access every time we want to start it wich takes about 7 minutes.
It's now booked into the garage tomorrow.

As you have found out by now the immobiliser is passive arming and activates after the car has been left for a certain period. It can't be turned off. Your probably going to need a new fob.

Hi there we have a freelander 2 57 plate.. My wife went to the shop in it on Saturday , after only being in shops 10 mins she returned to car and it would not start.. Had to call AA out who could not get it working either .. The immobiliser light stays on flashing and nothing lights up on dashboard.. It had to be brought back on the back of Recovery truck, as car is stuck in full right hand lock as steering wheel will not release.. I have had another bloke look at it who said it is to do with immobiliser.. Can anyone shine more light on this thanks
