Thread: Freelander 1.8 emission problems

    Default Freelander 1.8 emission problems

My 2000 1.8 Freelander has a failed an emissions test with a Lambda of 1.07 (needs to be 0.97 to 1.03) & a CO of .61% (needs to be below .3%).

Will I have to go to a main dealer or can any competent mechanic solve this ?

check the coolant and for signs of hgf as this can effect emissions

Have you had any starting problems recently? The cats are very weak, if she has been turned over without starting for too long, it will cook the cat.

They are 60 from factors (exchange). The lambda is easy as well, you can get one from the factors, or ebay - i had one off ebay once for 25 that lasted years!

No starts are immediate. I am being advised to fit a new air filter, & use some injector cleaner then give it a retest before replacing anything else

hi i had a similar prob a while ago but failing just co at 0.7%. changed the o2 sensor as a precaution and new (cheapo) cat. problem not solved so went round the houses testing all the ecu sensors but finally got a bosal cat (circa 70) and job done. lesson that cheap cats are hopeless. anyway you sound like you need a cat but have o2 sensor checked and replace if any doubts. hope this helps.
