Discovery 1 hand brake adjustment.

Hi guys

just got back from 2 weeks in cornwall in my mates disco 1 300tdi my mate did most of the driving and i noticed he has an habit of yanking the h/brake on after telling not to when i sold the car to him a couple of months ago as the h/brake held on 2 notches on hills but now it holds on 4 notches, his mot is in a couple of weeks and i will need to adjust it for then, whats the best way to adjust the h/brake on a d 1, is it the same as a series 11 / 111 landy.

There should be an adjuster screw (square head) on the back of the transmission brake drum. Give it a turn with the handbrake off and then test it. Hope that helps.

I think its a 17mm socket on the 300s Lewis. Wind it up tight with the handbrake off, turn it back until the drum turns freely with the shoes just rubbing. Apply and release the lever a couple of times to re-centre the shoes then give it a turn to and fro by hand to check it isnt binding.
