Default What size rivet do I need?

Gunna be replacing my 'rear body side extension panels' on my 110 soon (part number MRC6436).

Anyone know what size rivets I will need to fix the new ones back on?

The part number of the rivet you need is 78248 which lrseries variously describe as a '35mm rivet' (which I'm sure is wrong) and 'Sealed pop rivet 3/16" x 9/32" long'.

Now you have the part number you could always order using that.

Just standard 3/16" rivets - but they need to be a reasonable length. I managed to acquire a few stainless ones (must find some more soon), but ordinary aluminium will do fine.

I would suggest doing all you can to isolate the metals and minimise electrolytic corrosion. When I had mine off to fix the holes in the box section, I found the washers almost rotted away and corrosion setting in. When I put it back together, I wrapped the washers in insulating tape and then stuck them in place with tape. I also put a strip of tape along the outside of the panel to cover the holes. To fit the rivets, I poked holes in the tape with a scriber and pushed the rivets through. The only downside is that there is a hint of tape under the rivet heads after peeling it off the panel and tearing it around the rivets.

Dunno if it'll actually do any good or not. Oh yes, and I waxed everything before assembly as well.

Thanks Sarah, ill take a trip to Screwfix this weekend.

Good advice Simon re using tape, think Ill do the same. Am I right in thinking that in addition to the four rivets on the face of the panel, there are two more on the top edge?

As far as I recall, and a bolt at the bottom.

I'm not sure there's a bolt at the bottom - either according to the parts manual or from memory. I replaced the same parts a few years ago on my IIA and nothing seems to have changed since then.

There is a seal at the bottom - part number 333263.

Yoiu can get stainless 4.8mm rivets (equivalent to 3/16") from http://www.fixingsupplies.co.uk/pop-...4-5-6-7-8.html

Turns to audience, and with Panto voice shouts "Oh yes there is !" There certainly were in both sides of mine - between the panel under question and the top of the sill. If you click on the link in the original question, then click on the picture to enlarge it, you can clearly see the hole for it.

Needless to say I had to remove them with the universal spanner otherwise known as an angle grinder. Not easy working in the dark (under the vehicle) with a bright blue sky behind the part you're working on

Got it It seems to be more a fixing for the sill panel than a fixing for the extension panel though if you know what I mean,

Thanks for the link Sarah, gunna order all the parts I need this weekend

Simon, ive decided to wait till I receive the new panels before attempting to remove mine, then I can see exactly how they fit. Obviously need to get them sprayed first.

WestRec214H, that parts catalogue is useful, many thanks.

Anyone know if stainless rivets can be painted?

The original rivets aren't painted on mine. I think the extension panels are sprayed before fitting. A can't imagine they mask each rivet so it stays bare aluminium colour
