Default noisy freelander 1 1.8 xei

Well I guess with the noise coming from under my freelander the bearings or the vcu or both has gone kaput. I`m sure someone out there has changed both or either. Is it an easy job to do or would i be better just removing the lot and props and going 2 wheel drive. Any help is greatly appreciated.

VCU bearings usually drone that increases with speed and sounds between the front seats.
If it alters with the road surface, it's the tyres.
If it sounds by your feet, it's the IRD.
Under the rear seats it's the rear diff.

Had a look underneath yesterday and found that the uj on the end of the rear prop has given up , so i will be ordering a new one with a pair of prop shaft bearings to go on whilst I am underneath and hopefully this should cure it. I did the tippex test and luckily the vcu is ok as the marks are moving.
