    Exclamation Tow bar electrics

    Hi,

Do genuine Land Rover tow bar electrics/ECU need to be programmed into the car or is it a 'plug and play' system ?

Only reason I enquire is if I fit the tow bar and electrics myself. (As I did on my previous ML) Do I need a trip to the dealer/specialist before I tow anything? Most suppliers I think of buying these from say dealer computer to activate on a 2006 vogue.

    Is this correct?

I fitted a LR towbar & electrics to my 2003 model L322 and it was plug & play - no trip required to the dealer. Not sure about a 2006 model though.

I fitted tow bar electrics to my 2002 l322 and it is plug and play but was told by a LR Technician that it is a good idea to plug it in as tells the BeCM that there is tow bar fitted for the parking sensors and fog light cut out as well.

I fitted the genuine bar and electrics to my 06 Vogue and it did need coding to the car. Not a problem for me though, as I have IDS to do it with. Pity you're not nearer me. I would have done it for free for you.

    Thanks for the replies,

Fitted a westfalia detachable tow bar the weekend, but the fitting instructions did not make any reference to the 8 nuts in the boot which hold the bumper reinforcement on? it made reference to tightening 8 bolts (on the outside) to 165nm. Do i tighten the nuts to this, as I dont want to overtighten them and they are a ****** to get to!

Next thing to get the car reprogrammed.

The 165Nm figure is for the bolts that hold the armature to the underside of the boot floor.

The eight bolts across the back of the boot are tightened to 45Nm.

    Thanks Bemble.

I thought 165Nm was too tight, which is stated in the westfalia instruction manual. I better release the nuts off abit as I did them to 90Nm?
