i presumed so, but best to check. so, difficult to start from cold. before looking at the pump timing, lets cover a few basics that are more likely. firstly, are all 4 glow plugs working properly, including the one that requires the top taking off the pump to change. if 1 glow doesn't work, it will be a pig to start. also, air in the diesel lines from a perished squeezy bulb or leak off pipes.

yeah had new glow plugs and leak off pipes had cam belt changed last year and just wondering if timing was done properly then ? looked at all the threads and it seems like this is culprit? have ordered a new coolant temp sensor just in case its that?

If it runs OK when hot why would you think the pump timing were at fault, sounds more like air in the system as Zollaf suggests. When it starts from cold do you have a misfire for a short time, if you do this again points to air in the system.

As you will have found this has been covered in previous threads, accuracy is of key importance.....here's some info that should help..... if you are completely unfamiliar with the procedure a manual is probably the best way forward.

no misfire but a lot of smoke when it fires but it then runs spot on and will fire up all day if hot but when left all night or say 8hrs while at work it dont want to start? have read all threads and it seems that the only thing it can be is timming? cheers
