    Default Pin for towbar

The 90 has a ball-and-pin tow-hitch. It has a (very worn) LR ID plate on so I assume it's original equipment.

    The pin is missing.

The hole is 25mm (or perhaps an actual inch?)

The only pin I've found in a quick on-line browse is 25mm diameter and 200mm long - seems a tad too long to me? And will 25mm fit or will I find it just too snug?

It should be 120mm long - look for a Dixon Bate 68121

for use with the adjustableslider type towbar

if it's the pin for the ball/pin tow jaw then it's a 25mm dia pin

This is a LR branded unit which looks like (very like - possbily from teh same production line) the Dixon Bate ball/pin unit. I noted that had a 25mm pin, but Paddocks declined to sell me just the pin and before I went shopping elsewhere I thought, let's just check if anyone knows different! I'd be annoyed to buy a 25mm pin and find that the LR unit needs a 24mm pin! :-))

Blimus - I'm seeing prices of 30 for just the pin. I didn't realise it was tungsten-cored silver bullion!!

It will be of a very good quality hard steel (or should be) and thus hard to work and not cheap...

Yep - saw the tractor one but 157mm seemd too long and that's when I decided to ask here first.

But if that one is six quid why is the official one 30+ ? IWHT tractor loads were heavier and the pin subject to way more heavy use than the average landie hitch.

Yeah those tractor pins should be at least the equal of the DB hitch pin. 30 for a hitch pin is extortionate. You could have it made in tool steel for that money!

Personally I'd get the 157mm one (cos it's a convenient shape, c/w chain etc) and if it proves too long, drill a new hole higher up. If it won't drill then you know the steel is good!

Indeed I have ordered one, I shall report back. It won't get heavy use but I can't imatgine it being a problem.

And the tractor pin doesn't fit. Either it uses larger mms LandRover, LR's part is smaller than the stated 25mm, or just maybe the hole in the towbar needs a good brushing out - but I think it's more than just a snug fit due to smuts.

I've just been out and measured the diameter of the pin in my hitch and it's 24.5mm exactly. I have seen the spare pin diameter referred to as 24mm rather than 25mm - see http://www.westerntowing.co.uk/acatalog/info_DB121.html
