Today I fitted the ladder frame and sump, flywheel housing, flywheel and clutch Assy, then fitted the FIP, and new timing belt kit, just need to fit the head yet as I only realised today that we forgot to order the head gasket forgetting it doesn't come in the head set arrr

    Here is the plan

1, Replace the new std springs with Parra's and shocks
    2, Replace the bulkhead
    3, Fit a Steve Parker full exhaust ( 200tdi )
4, Fit L.E.D. lights and Crystal clear headlights
5, Fit Def cloth seats and matching 4 x cloth side facing rear seats
6, Fit a full safari roof inc the top roof
    7, Fit 3 new doors
8, Replace the tyres with insa sahara turbo's or similar

The vehicle will be used as a road car only so no need for winch, big tyres, or a winch.

    What do you think

A few modern upgrades to make it very usable on modern day roads I would think. Shouldn't detract much from the traditional looks too. Do you have an overdrive?

No not yet but it will be fitted with Def 3,54-1 diffs with it being fitted with 200tdi engine, I have fitted a Def diff in the front just need to get a rear one now but I am trying to find out a bit more about gearbox's as with it going to be used just for road use I am thinking of using a S3 gearbox rather than a S2a gearbox mainly for better gearing but not sure if the Def diffs will make it a bit over geared as with my last 2a fitted with a 200tdi I had an Ashcroft gearbox with an o/d fitted and it was great so I am trying to get similar gearing but without the expence of an Ashcroft gearbox

I keep forgetting to read this as I rarely look in the maintenance section. Would be good, and get more response if you moved it to series forum maybe, though traffic is a bit slow everywhere on here at the moment I think.

Can recommend the LED conversion and crystal headlamps. Have both on my S3. A very worthwhile upgrade if you're not fussed about originality. Likewise I'd fit hazards and reverse light also if you haven't got already.

Aah. Just realised its in Maintenance / readers restorations. An entirely logical place to put it! Will just have to remember to check in more often.

I run 3.54 diffs, 235/85 (32") tyres and an OD and the gearing is ok on the road. Mine is a 109 with a camper body so its heavy and the engine is a 3.3 Perkins 4203 - 63HP but lots of torque. OD top is about 2000 rpm at 60 which is quite quiet. The high gearing puts a big gap in 3rd to 4th and annoyingly 30 mph is right on the gear change. This may be soved by the 200TDI as it will rev better in 3rd. The lack of synchro on 2nd on the 2A box means its easier to drive on 3rd, 3rd/OD, 4th and 4thOD which gives 4 gears with syncho. The biggest problem with the 3.54 diffs / 2A box is the very high reverse gear. Even in low range idle is a brisk walking speed. Ist low range is ok.

Yeah I have since found out that a std box with 3.54 diffs and o/d will be slightly higher geared than an Ashcroft gearbox std diffs and o/d as an Ashcroft gearbox is slightly less geared than 3.54 diffs, so I think I will give this setup ago first and if the gearing is too tall I will try and get an Ashcroft gearbox and std diffs but personely I think this setup will work but will need to use the overdrive more inbetween gears when doing town work but we will see

my 109 200 tdi had a standard box and 3.54 diffs. fine on the road but needed an overdrive, but off road 1st low was far too high . if i was to do it again i would fit a defender lt77 and 3.54 diffs and be done, at least they are geared to work together. but then i wouldnt do it again, i would stay petrol and gas it because a 200 in a series is just wrong, but thats just me. i sold the 109 becasue it was just too loud..
currently between landrovers, just a scabby old audi with 359,000 miles under it.

Oh I don't know with the straight through exhaust and rear wing exit on the 90 I find it louder than what my S2a was with the 200 in with a Steve Parker full system on

Hoping to be starting the work on the 90 this weekend coming painting the newer roof and refurbed bulkhead ready for removing the old units from the 90 swapping everything over to the refurbed bulkhead then once that's done fit the refurbed bulkhead and roof ready for selling the 90 then once its sold I can then start work again on the 2a as a lot of it will be re-work stuff on the 2a as originally the 2a was for selling so most seals and stuff was replaced with BP stuff and as I am keeping the 2a now everything in BP will be replaced with decent stuff and I have given myself 12 months to complete

Well that didn't happen yesterday as whilst I was out getting the paint we need for the 90's roof and bulkhead son rang me to say he has chance of a load of flags we desperately need for in front if the garage so got back loaded the trailer on and with sons small van we collected 50 flag stones in 2 loads then managed to get them all rough layed as it will make life a little easier for driving in and out of the garage aswell as maneuvering the trailer to where I want it then once the 2a is finished we will dig them up and re-lay them properly, so everything I said we was going to do yesterday will get done tomorrow instead 1307402756816.jpg 1307402761723.jpg 1307402766759.jpg 1307402776468.jpg 1307402789635.jpg 1307402804003.jpg 1307402804429.jpg
