    Default RR or Disco?

How do they compare as general use and off-roading? Much difference with fuel consumption between carbed 3.5 and fuel injected 3.9? Much difference between early RR and last of the line/

The basic structure is the same. A basic early disco will be similar to a basic RRC. There are some differences, like the boge strut on an RRC. Pre-85 RRC's had a few more differences, but if you're choosing between a disco and an RRC it's probably a fair bet you're looking at post-85 models. Later RRCs got pretty complex with air suspension and the like, and engine choices were much the same, save for the VM diesel - you can have a TDI or a V8 EFI in either model.

If you've no preference, buy on condition.

For general use, I'd go for Disco 2, later Classic, Disco 1, early Classic, in that order. The main problem with all of them is rust though.

rrc and disco 1 (200 or 300) are the same vehicle. disco is just as simple and user friendly as the rrc, just there are lots more discos for less money because the rrc is becoming collectible and good ones are going up in price.
currently between landrovers, just a scabby old audi with 359,000 miles under it.
