    Smile Ammeter or Voltmeter Wanted

Does anybody have a dash mounted ammeter or voltmeter spare (round - about 2" diameter). It doesn't need to be new or even accurate as I want to rip it apart and make a tacho out of it. Contact me and let me know how many beer tokens you need in exchange at bob.miller@ntlworld.com.

Default Tach made of a voltmeter?

How you wanna do THAT?? OK you can have 10 ex - army Voltmeters from my collection if you come to pick them up.
Is that really worth the trouble? Paid £20 for my tach!

Where did you get your tacho - and what size is it? The only 2" tacho I could find is just short of £200. I want to put it where the blank is for the 3rd gauge on the dash. If I could find one for £20 quid I'd be a happy bunny! If not I'd be happy to buy one of yours - I'm not sure I can use 10.

    Many thanks,

    Default Cheap tach

Yes, you're right. When I asked for one in those expensive German catalogues or looked on the web in the US, same price: between 200-300 Euros, that is roughly 150 -200 GBP.
But last December I was browsing for connectors and plugs in the local DIY supermarket (Super Basar in Tielt, if that helps) and saw this tach for 30 EUR, it even came with a switch for 4-8 cylinders, VDO had offered nothing for a V8! As you might expect, it is made in Mongolia or so.
2 hours later it was installed, it is one to put on top of the dashboard, though. Must say I liked that even better, because the speedo in a Series 3 snaps frequently, so you can keep an eye on the tach instead:-)

Want me to look next time I need connectors or such like?

I've also got my old tach lying around somewhere. It was four cylinder crap, so it was pretty useless for a Stage One.

    Hi,

Try motorworld, I got one for £25. See if they have anything suitable.

    Hi Annette/Rykard,

Filled with hope I'll try the local factors and see if they know of anywhere local to try (Thames Valley) - I can't seem to track down Motorworld nearer than the Midlands. Failing that I'd be grateful if you could look in Tielt next time you're there - I've no idea where it is (beyond Belgium) but at 16 mpg it would probably be cheaper to shell out the £200 than go myself!

Could you do me one other favour please Annette? I notice from your photo (or rather your Landy's photo) that you've got 2 fixed rear windows in the back. Is there any chance you could put a tape measure across them for me? I need to do something with mine before the missus is finally overcome by claustrophobia in the back - the kids are in the front with the belts! I'd like to get the size right as the MoD use fixed windows and it would at least keep mine in the MoD spirit. I've posted in two or three other places but nobody seems to be able to help.

    Many thanks,

    Default Windows etc

I'll look tomorrow when I can see something. Shouldn't be a problem, there are only two different sizes. My Stage one has no back door, just the usual tailgate so I conclude that the surveyor who owned it before me has converted it into a hardtop and has installed the windows. They are not exactly in the same place on both sides.

Yes, I'll look in the Supa Bazar. (We live only 35 kms from Oostend, so it is not THAT far from England, really:-) ) We were to the Belgian miniature version of Sodbury's today, it was well worth the 220km return. Got TWO SU carbs complete with the LPG rings and the plenum for 25 EUR!!!
So now we can really convert my husbands Stage One into an LPG fuel saver and run the V8 cheaper than a Citroen!

Sorry, Ihad a bad flu and it took me a while to remember what I had promised to measure up:
Mine are 72x28 cms, those in a 110 I looked at are 84x34.
    hope that helps.

If you want a tacho around the 2" mark then go to a good motorcycle shop, where you can get an electronic tacho which is the same size as an oil preasure / amp meter / fuel guage and comes complete with wiring and light. The only thing is, it mounts on a bracket, but if you cut the hole tight enough, you will be able to fit it into whatever you like. They cost about £35 and have a white or black face and are fully chromed.
If you are in the London area, try Mac Motorcycles, Tooting SW17

Found one, in fact I've found two! A post on the LRO forum gave me the lead - Vehicle Wiring Products (http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk/ - but the server's gone down this evening!) do one by Tim and one by Durite - both 52 mm electronic, 4-6-8 cylinder 0-8000 rpm - the Tim one's about £32 plus the dreaded - the Durite is about £39.

Many thanks to all who made suggestions,
