Discovery V8i soundproofing/exhaust noise

My 96 V8i gas converted discovery is brilliant except for the noise. The exhaust note reverberates through the car especially at about 2,000 rpm and the road noise is loud! Is there anything I can do to reduce these problems? There is nothing wrong with the exhaust system.

Suggest that you check the mounting rubbers and if any part of the exhaust is (almost) touching anything. Are the engine and gearbox mounts OK? Try jacking the engine up an inch to see it the mounting rubbers are parted.
Alternatives:
Turn the stereo up.
Drive too fast and the sandbags nagging will drown out all but the worst noises.
Drive at < or > 2000rpm.
