I don't see anything wrong with the bonnet Gaz! It's a good bit better than mine.......

I'm going to go out and sit in ours now, to see if I can see what the mystery bit is. It does look like the end of the dash though, you have to admit...

That front bulkhead looks well too..... the trick with the tape and the resin is a good one, must remember that.
Less of them negative waves, Baby...

I only ride 'em. I don't know what makes them work....

See you in another life, Brother.

Yes it does look as if it could go on the end of the dash, but I ave the ends on my dash. This part has 2 plastic dowels on it to fit into a steel part, then screw 2 self tappers into, by the look of it.
Also there seems to be 2 little cut outs for cables or something to pass through.

By the way, the front panel is now green and looks very good in my eyes, so I will put up a pic in the near future.

I hope you find the bit for me, all the best Gaz.

Hi,Gaz. Is the mystery piece the one at the bottom of the dash at the end?Down near the footwell edge and around to the door.
That looks as clear as mud,but hopefully, you'll know where I mean.

Great to have you back and inspiring us to do our work to your standard M8.

    Default Grill Sprayed

The plastic grill was black, so I removed the paint with thinners and underneath was silver, then gold.
As you can se, I decided on silver.

    Default Grill On

Now the grill is on, just to keep it out of the way at the moment.
It looks a bit loud at the moment, but when the wings are on and the headlamp besels are silver too, I don't think it will look bad.

    What do you think?

    Thumbs up

    WOW!

I have only just come across this thread tonight and have spent the last hour reading the lot and I am gobsmacked.

You are truly an inspiration to us all and seem such a genuine character with it. You have restored not only your superb Landy, but also some of my faith in humanity!

Absolutely fascinating and it is so good to see a job being done and done well and thanks for the advice, most of which is really useful.

I feel dreadfully lazy by comparison, which is motivating me to do more, so thanks again!

Looking forward to the next episode....

BTW: The silver grille looks great and the picking out of details in silver also looks excellent, INMHO.

The light at the end of the tunnel is only the torch of some idiot bringing me more work......

VEry nice indeed Gaz, you;re right about the silver grille. Must be so motivating for you to get it to this stage where it's starting to look like a Landy again!

    Default Thanks Everybody!

I am glad you are all enjoying my project.

Ammiescot, I did not scrape the paint from my grill. I just kept brushing it over with a paint brush with thinners and it all just melted off. But you have to be carefull as the grill is plastic and can melt. I found that once down to the plastic, I then washed it down bit at a time with thinners and then wiped it with a clean piece of cotton. The cotton rag smoothes off the plastic and smoothes the edges of any paint that may still be there.

By the way, all of you that have been trying to find where my mystery part belongs, I went to my local LR parts stockist today and while looking through his parts book I came across it.

It is situated in the middle of the dash, where the vent flaps are, by the looks of it. I don't know if that's where you guys thought it belonged, but I will have to remove my top dash plastic foamy top, if you know what I mean, to fit it. ******!
Thanks anyway BigSandy, BernieHayden, Janine + anybody else that has looked for me.

Next on the agender is fitting the battery tray and air box, then its the wings, which will be sprayed the weekend, I hope!

Default The Weekend came and went!

Well it was the weekend, and I was supposed to have sprayed my wings. It never happened!
I cleaned up my battery tray / airbox holder and sprayed it black.
But the thing had been powder coated and it was a nightmare trying to get it all off, so I didn't. Most of this part is not seen anyway, but at least it now has a good coat of paint on it.
I will have another go at the wings in the week and hopefully this weekend coming? You never know!

    Gaz
