Thread: FREE O.S MAPS

    Default FREE O.S MAPS

If you go on the Ordnance Survey website. there is a feature on there, similar to multimap etc. However the map info shows at 1:50000 BOATS and RUPPS, in your given search area, and is apparently updated constantly by the O.S.
You cannot print whole page maps but the extracts that are printable are current, and could be useful when planning to drive these routes, for checking against paper maps that may be out of date.
If you are like me and travel far and wide, and like to take in routes all over the country, you don't want to be constantly buying maps.
Thought this might be of use to some.

Exactly what I thought, thats why I went looking for some. I trawled round loads of Local authority and highways authorities website, but with no result.
Makes you laugh really, with all the uproar over lanes and the new legislation, you would think that any Local Authority would have it's definitive map available for acces, online.
This would protect all users of lanes.

Call me synical, but it probably suits them NOT to have the info easily available, otherwise people might actaully use the lanes and they therefore couldn't close them....

Has anyone got an opinion on how good www.magic.gov.uk is for Green Lanes?

Didn't look as though there was a topic to search for them on.
BTW the OS maps aren't definitive, you still need to go to the council office to check their Map and Statement. Or join a club and get all the info you need from the RoW guy. I did a couple of new ones last night actually, that have just been opened. SCC have a reasonable attitude to green laning and are reinstating several that have disappeared.

I have had a look at it, and it would seem that they haven't included any information on rights of way. I have sent them a mail, asking when and if this is likely to happen. If they do include this info as well then this could become the online definitve map for England, and would be invaluable for laners.
