Default Oil Change on Freelander 1.8 petrol

I have a 2004 Freelander and want to change the oil and filter.
How do you access the filter, is it by removing the underneath tray and if so it appears to be riveted. I saw on a USA site a suggestion of taking of the near side front wheel and getting in that way.
Apologies for being a bit dim but can anyone help?

There are 2 crosshead screws under the bumper and 8 bolts holding the undershield on. 2 in each corner. You need a 13mm socket and an extension, the rear 4 will be seized if they haven't been moved for a while.

I find the undertrays to be a worse pain on later F/L's than the earlier ones, for just an oil service I remove the bolts at the back and pull it down just enough to get a shallow drain pan in.
Cant understand why they make them so difficult to remove considering it ought to be taken off at each service, why 4 decent bolts wont do is a mystery to me.

How do I get at the oil filter without dropping off the whole tray? There appears to be a hole in the under tray to get at the drain plug.

In reply to Tmpl4r, my one has 2 bolts at the back a whole series of screws across the front and a series of these rivet looking things down each side.

You take the whole lot off, frame and all. The rivets hold the sheet to the frame.

The rear bolts are in the recess at the point the frame touchs the subframe. The fronts are up, a bit behind the bumper. There are 2 little plastic tabs form the bumper that screw to the frame. You have to make sure you put the frame over these when you re fit it.
