I run my iPod to my Alpine head unit which comes with a cable to conect my iPod to it. So I just put the ipod in my cubby box and thats that. I can control the ipod via the head unit so I don't need to see the ipod at all.
is there anyway to use like of preouts to put the ipod through or am i barking up the wrong tree
I just spent £30 and got one of the radio transmitter thingys from Griffin
Plugs into the giggie lighter, chooses a dead frequency on the radio, tune the do-hicky to that plug into ipod and push play.

Yes I have one and I have had no trouble with reception. However it does depend on the model of iTrip you have, is it the one that just plugs in and you use the radio volume, or are you using the type that has a separate volume control which is better. In any case set the frequency of the iTrip high, as there is less interference from ghosting stations on FM above 106, I have mine set at 107.9 and have no trouble with other stations.
The positioning of the ipod / iTrip is not that critical just remember that it broadcasts a signal that is picked up by the radios antenna, so the nearer to this the better. You will also find that if you use an in board / cigar lighter charger rather than the ipods battery your reception will be better.
A word of warning here using an iTrip device is against the law in this country and you could be prosecuted under the Wireless Telegraphy Act of 1949 which prohibits the use of radio broadcasting equipment without a licence. This means effectively that using the iTrip would be akin to broadcasting your own pirate radio station. This could mean you could be arrested and heavily fined. Silly I know but there it is. So guys if you want to live life on the edge and break laws get an ipod and itrip

Wrong apparantly. Legal as of the 8th of December 2006
'New Wireless Telegraphy (Exemption) (Amendment) Regulations 2006 mean that certain low-power transmitters will now be legal. However, many devices currently on the market will remain illegal as they do not meet the legally required technical specifications and could interfere with radio broadcasts.
The new amendments will also reflect a European standard on the low-power transmitters.
All approved transmitters will carry a CE mark indicating approval for sale in the European Union.'

I don't use an ipod anymore. I've broken too many and the battery life was rubbishI have a Sony HD5...battered, dunked and uncared for for the last 2 years or so. Still works and still has 25 hours battery life
Hooked up to the head unit via a cable.

And rightly so it was a silly law anyway.![]()
And talking of Pirate radio stations is anyone old enough to remember Radio Caroline. I used to listen to it all the time as a schoolboy, I remember the day of their last broadcast and how sad I felt. The new radio 1 that replaced the pirate stations was just not the same.![]()
I suppose now that my iTrip is legal that will not be the same either. It was like having my only little pirate radio station in the confines of my Land Rover and home, that some how satisfied a distant memory of a rebellious time.![]()
