The universal joints are the joints on the prop shafts, they should have grease nipples although a few are sealed for life. The joints are tricky to change even after you have done a few!

The swivel balls on the front axle house the constant velocity CV joints, they are lubricated by gear oil or a semi liquid grease. If you look at the rear of the swivels, at the bottom there is a drain plug and about halfway up there is a fill/level plug.

Many people, including LR use the special grease instead of gear oil as it is less likely to leak, but some people say that grease will not lubricate the CV joint as well as oil!

It is common for the swivel seals, the big seal around the chrome ball to leak, usually after the balls corrode and become pitted. These seals are not an easy job to fix and over here, excess leaking will be an MOT failure as there is a risk of contaminating the brakes. An easier fix is to refill with grease.

Out of interest why are you get mixed up with the swivels?
If there's play in there, you'll need to adjust the pre-load or maybe even replace the swivel bearings, or even the entire CV joint depending on the symptoms. Nothing to do with UJs I'm afraid.
