Default axles?

The 90 currently has std 86/7 axles. Iv also got a set of late 200 disco axles (24spline), I want to swap both the front and back.

The axles tubes (?) on the 90 are pretty good but the disco ones are rusty as but perfect internally. Can i fit the hubs, brakes swivels diffs, half shafts and other gubins from the disco axles into the 90 axles or should i just send the disco tubes off for sand blasting? Im not worried about time, the 90's not going to be on the road for 6 or 7 months so iv got time to fiddle.

Cheers, Brian

Should be able to swap the bits over if you want to, is it just surface rust or deeper, might be quicker and easier to give them a going over with a sanding disc and wire brush.

Front axle is no problem, everything will swap over. Rear may be a problem, I'm guessing the old axle has drums? There's no mountings for calipers in that case. So you either need to sort out the rust on the disco axle, or buy a new casing. If you try sorting the current casing, make sure there's enough metal left on it!

I've just realised where you are, I spend half my life round Reading/Henley, would be good to see the project at some time.

If you decide to swap axles completely, just be aware that the Disco front axle may have different width hockey stick bushes - so you'll need the hockey sticks to go with it.

Yeah someone had mentioned they are larger or something, Seeing as they're coming of a disco im breaking i'll keep all the bits associated with the axles and steering anyway I think.

Thanks for the heads up, Brian

I like keep all the bits (liek suspension links etc) as well - it means I have spare bits I can grit blast and paint at my leisure. Might as well make things look like you at least tried
