Stereo Wiring Harness for P38
Hi guys,
My Clarion Diversity is up the spout and though I'm bidding on another through ebay at the moment I'm sorely tempted by going down the aftermarket route.
I've seen this ISO adapter lead on eBay and was quite taken back by the price on it

Surely there are cheaper options out there?

Re: Stereo Wiring Harness for P38
Hi
Question you need to ask yourself before buying any of these leads is...
What spec is your car SE, HSE, etc. or more importantly, have you got a sub and CD multichanger in the boot?
If you have, these leads will not work properly despite claiming they do. Basically if you have the highline sound system (CD multichanger and sub, +amps in all doors) you need to provide a 'special' signal to the amps from the head unit. Normal Head units have a line level output, often called RCA and speaker level outputs. The amps in the doors and the ones in the sub need a signal that is part way in between and with special wiring, designed to reduce interference. You cannot just connect up the speaker or line level outs from a normal head unit to the amps is this will not work properly.
We are currently working on a proper solution to this with a piece of interface electronics to provide the correct signals to all door amps and the sub.
If of course you have got the low-line stereo, buy the lead it should work fine!
I will post once we have a decent solution to the high line stereo interface.

Mines the 4.6 HSE with cd changer in the boot, not sure about sub as the stereo has never worked. Where would that be located if it has one?

Re: Stereo Wiring Harness for P38
4.6 HSE - top of the range... Highline stereo.
Sub should be in the boot on the left hand side, you should have a space under the fixed part of the parcel shelf on the right and it should be filled in on the left. The CD multichanger should be mounted under the sub and there should be what looks like a vent on the parcel shelf in the front left hand corner.
This is the same spec as my car, I have bought each of the leads advertised. Even the one that is marked as with Sub connections so suitable for therefore suitable for highline stereo, none of them work properly (and by properly I mean vaguel acceptably - one did not work at all, the last one I bought used the speaker outs on the head unit to feed the amps in the doors, etc and was so loud, even with the volume turned to zero on the head unit it was still clearly audible, you then could not turn the stereo up at all without distorting everything.)
You could take all the amps out of the doors and then use the head unit to power things or, as I say, we are working on an interface and will post as soon as we have sorted something.
Thanks
Andy

Bloody nightmare!
No wonder 2nd hand units still reach such a high premium.

Re: Stereo Wiring Harness for P38
Hi there,
I'm new to here, and to Land Rover ownership. My 1994 Range Rover has just come back from an engine upgrade and the code has gone from the Clarion Diversity.
I’m keen to replace it with a newer version and have been reading this thread with interest.
I do have the sub in the boot but I don’t have hand controls nor do I have a CD changer. I don’t know if I have amps in the doors as mine is a classic soft dash shape, not the P38.
I’m assuming from the thread that this will not work properly? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...:X:AAQ:GB:1123
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Cheers

Re: Stereo Wiring Harness for P38
Hi
Short answer is no, if you have got he HSE spec vehicle, there is not, as far as I can find, a plug and play type solution. The leads just do not work work and fundamentally by design cannot work, when you look at the feed required by the amplifier.
We are still trying to find the time to get an interface sorted, will post as soon as this has bubbled to the top of the priority list.
Thanks
Andy

Re: Stereo Wiring Harness for P38
hi i had the same issue a few years back on my old p38, i changed the head unit for one with mp3 ( better than a 6 disc changer ), removed the door amps and re configured the wiring for some aftermarket crossovers, and it sounded very very good, ideally i should have increased the gauge of the wiring, but i didn't listen to it loud all the time, but when i did it was fine.
the best part was, when i sold all the old parts ( including faulty head unit and subwoofer / changer boot trim panel ) the money made covered all my costs plus about 90 quid! i was well chuffed.
cheers, ian.
