Default Smart Box / Super Chip

Has anyone tried these power enhancers. Are they worth the £475 that one spot is charging or should I be happy with what I have?

Have you read James Taylor's article about these in the current (new) issue of Land Rover Enthusiast? He seems pretty happy with it!

Thumbs up Smart Box

I have fitted to my Disco TD5 and am very happy with it, but paid less than 475UKP for mine. Also you'll still be covered under LR warranty (if you have it) if something hapeens to the ECU.

A matching intercooler is being fitted next Monday. by Allisport

That's interesting, what sort of chip did you get and why the new intercooler?
Did the insurance go up by much?
I would be keen to hear from first hand experience rather than adverts.
Cheers for your time.

Default Plods R us

I was chatting to a Disco driving patrol type plod while in the bacon sarnie shop a few weeks ago. He reckoned that the standard TD5 was poo, and would only just do 90 when loaded up. They had it chipped (don't know which one) and he reckoned it was much better but still not as good as the RR V8. Biggest complaint was the lack of go when setting off. he thought that there wouldn't be a problem catching the hybrid though (mind you I didn't let on what was under the bonnet!) as he thought it was "only" an old Landy.

Did you show him what the 'bonnet arrester' kit was for?

I spent a day at AVA, a local tuning company, which was arranged through the college course I was attending. They did not rate these power enhancing boxes. Allegedly......(here we go again!) they retard the ignition to begin with, and then after a certain rev limit, it advances the ignition, so what you feal is a surge in power, but it is only surging up to what it would be as standard. It infact give you less power at a lower rev band. Allegedly. You could get a re-programable chip, and have someone clever re-map you engine while you drive via a lap-top. My mate is going down this road with his race car once he gets throttle-bodies fitted.
