Question Rear Wiper

Hi all,

I have purchased a Discovery Series 1 (H reg)

Everything works apart from rear wiper.

What are the common causes before I study my haynes manual

Dicky (aka polar)

Where are the good websites for parts and accessories online

Do the Discos have electrical contacts on the rear door, or is it fed by a wire? If it has contacts, they could have corroded over stopping the power getting through. Did you check they fuse?

For spares I use http://www.paddockspares.com/

Question Cold start!!!

Hey Polar,

did you get your wiper problem sorted out?? The reason I ask is that I bought my Disco last October, and on some cold or frosty mornings over the winter I noticed that the rear wiper would not work. The blade was not frozen to the screen either!!

A mate of mine who's got a Rangie, said that he's heard that some controls on the Disco's can be sensitive to low voltage. As a separate issue, after a few problems with cold starts where the engine only just crankled over, I investigated and found that some plonker had put an undersized (capacity wise) battery in the car!!

I splashed out on a new battery, of the proper capacity and size, and now not only does the Disco start up better, but the rear wiper always works even on frosty mornings!! Just another of those quirks that landrover engineers throw at us poor unsuspecting owners!!

But I am interested to know if your rear wiper problem was solved and what the problem was in the end........

I also had a problem with my rear wiper.
It was sorted by stripping the wiper motor, cleaning the grease off the copper contacts for the brushes with emery cloth, greasing all the moving parts (but not the motor of course as I just cleaned it ) put it all back together and not had a problem since!
