Unhappy Squeeky steering

I meant to mention this on my first post...

My steering wheel on my 300tdi 'squeels' sometimes - i think consistemt with extremes of temperature - it doesnt happen all the time. I have applied copious amounts of lubricant but it doesnt seem to cure the problem. Im sure its caused by friction and not by a mechanical fault. Has anyone had a similar problem and if so have they managed to fix it?

I've not had that for a long time but did when my Disco was reasonably new, hence the dealer got to fix it. All they did was to lubricate the steering wheel shaft at a bearing (?) where it went through the bulk head.

Mark.

Default Bushes

The steering column goes through one or two plastic bushes as well. It is quite possible these are dry and causing some squeaking.

Be careful what you try and lube steering colun bushes with as some oils etc can affect the bush material and end up having it swell tight on the shaft or go rock hard, if in doubt ask a dealer what they would use!

Talking

I have located the rubber gaitor that the steering column passes through into the engine bay from the bulkhead. I have Lubricated this with WD40 and it seems to have worked. Apparently LR now make a replacement gaitor for a couple of quid but the steering column needs to be removed to fit it correctly. No more squeeking tho...
