Question Obtaining original radio???

Yes, it's me again - come to pester all you experts out there !!! Now I've cured the leak in my Disco 300Tdi (1995)., I'm trying to do something about the Audio system. At some point in my Disco's past someone has replaced the original radio (stolen, broken ) with an "el-cheapo" Radio Cassette. Although the audio is passable, it means I can't use the CD Autochanger (still there under the seat!!), the remote controls don't work and the tailgate speakers don't work either

Now then! Does anyone know if I can get an original spec radio/cassette/CD Controller to fit into my Disco:chin: - I know the spec has changed for the latest models but again I'm not sure if a "new" one (i.e. current model) would interface with the old system correctly

Can anyone shed any light on this? Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement unit for my 1995 Disco? Eternal gratitude awaits the genius who can assist me

You might be better off buying a new CD Changer and Radio and selling on the changer....

Or you could have a look on Ebay

Thumbs up New CD & Radio

Thanks Mark!! :wellHello

I will go and try Ebay right away, see if there's one listed or put out an appeal for one! I did talk to someone at Land Rover HQ earlier today. He confirms my audio kit type is the original "Phillips" equipment, only an original Phillips Radio will work with my Phillips CD Changer.

They later used an "Alpine" system, so my fall back is to get an Alpine Radio/Cassette/CD Controller and an Alpine CD Changer, they will then work with the rest of the system - speakers and switches - OK.

I've tried an appeal under WANTED for the Phillips unit on this site - I'll spread the net through Ebay and other such sites :chin: and let you know what happens!!

Thanks again for the reply - it's really appreciated!! :super:

I might be able to help you here ....
I swapped out my original LR Radio/Cassette (with CD Autochanger control) for new kit because I could not get my hands on an autochanger unit.

I cant not remember the model details, but it came out of a 96 TDi Disco.

Hi Pete, :wellHello

it sounds as though that's the one that I want!! :bravo: It should be a PHILLIPS make, as the Phillips audio kit has been discontinued for a while now and you must have got a later type. The Phillips kit was replaced by ALPINE kit some time after mine was new (1995), so there is a chance it's the Phillips radio you have.

Just to confirm, have you got any part numbers on the wee beasty?? Land Rover at Solihull gave me part number XQD000160LNF for the ALPINE radio unit, as I was considering buying the APLINE kit if I can't get the Phillips Radio. Let me know what it says....

If it proves to be the right one, we'll switch to e-mail and see if we can swing a deal......

Garry,

Sounds good to me. I'm at work at the moment, will have to wait till i get home to look it up. I'm pretty sure it is the Phillips job. I replaced the whole unit with and ALPINE but not a LR Alpine.

The sound quality from the original, was brilliant but - i prefer listening to CD in the car so swapped it out.

Its been out of the car and boxed for about 1year to 1.5 years. Both Radio and Cassette worked perfectly.

I will give you nod, on here, either later tonite or tomorrow.

Smile Sucess!!!!

Hi Pete!!

thanks for all the PM's received here OK. Look forward to getting the radio now, I removed the old one this afternoon and found all the original connectors are still there. I should literally be able to "plug and play" as soon as your radio gets here.

Can't wait now to get a few of my old CD's in the car and have a good blast!! I'll let you know how things work out with the radio, as promised.

Ta very much!!!

Default Original radio.

I was at the LRM show this year and the Dunsford stand had a selection of radios all new for sale, and they all matched up to the one fitted to my 95 Discovery, so they may be wortha try.

A guy on Ebay has new original equipment Philips Radio cassette @ £44.95 + postage. I think his current offer has ended but you can still track him down.
